Freezer Storage for Ground Nuts

Freezer Storage for Ground Nuts

By Wardeh on August 11, 2008

When I grind nuts — whether fine, medium-fine, or coarse meal — I do several cups at a time and store the excess in the freezer for use during the coming week(s). For some time now, I have been using quart- or pint-size glass jars to store the ground nuts, instead of plastic zipper-seal bags. [...]

1 tablespoon cumin (optional)
1/2 teaspoon sea salt
2 tablespoons raw honey

Roasted Toasted Hazelnuts

By Wardeh on December 14, 2006

Our pastor’s wife gave us some deliciously toasted local hazelnuts. She also gave me some raw hazelnuts to turn into hazelnut butter for her family to try. I just finished toasting the raw hazelnuts using her directions, which are:
Roasted Toasted Hazelnuts
Preheat oven to 275 degrees. Spread raw (shelled) hazelnuts out on a baking sheet [...]

I use organic, dry roasted Valencia peanuts that I buy from Azure Standard.
Natural Peanut Butter
4 cups organic, dry roasted Valencia peanuts
1 teaspoon sea salt
Put peanuts and salt in food processor or Vita-Mix. You may want to blend in smaller batches, depending on the capabilities of your appliance. Blend until smooth or slightly chunky, according to [...]

Decadent & Hearty Oatmeal

By Wardeh on March 21, 2006

I’m experimenting with our morning oatmeal. We used to eat super-sweet oatmeal, but when we tossed out white and brown sugar and quit using quite so much honey or maple syrup, the children stopped enjoying it. So I’m trying to make it yummy and nutritious. Lately, they have been saying, “This is good!” If you [...]

Apple Salad

By Wardeh on February 7, 2006

I ended up making this for the church dinner last Friday night. Then I had to make more on Saturday since it was so good!
Apple Salad
6 to 8 apples, cleaned and with the peel left on (I used Pink Lady apples)
1/4 cup lemon juice
purified water
1/4 cup agave syrup (or honey), or to taste
1/8 teaspoon nutmeg
1/4 [...]
