Q & A: Healthy Condensed Cream Soups?

I’m answering a very good question today! Patricia asks, “I am having difficulty in coming up with a better solution for that can of condensed cream soup that so many recipes call for. Do you have a solution? Surely to goodness, there has to be something better?” I’ve got some answers.

Q & A: Meatless Meal Ideas

q-a

We’re generating great ideas and discussions in the Fundamentals eCourse forums. My post today stems from Jessica’s forum question: “I am trying to stretch all my grass-fed meats because they cost quite a bit more. Does anyone have ideas for meatless dishes?” I share a few of my ideas, and then leave it to you to fill the comments with your great ideas.

Q & A: Honey In Fermented Beverages?

Today’s Q & A is one of my own questions. I’ve had it since I began making Kombucha. “Since honey has anti-microbial properties, can one use it in fermented beverages and fermented foods? Or will it kill the mother culture?”

Q & A: Getting In Your Coconut Oil

q-a

I am among many who have tried to eat a small amount of coconut oil before each meal, ala “Eat Fat, Lose Fat” – to increase satiety and decrease cravings. In a comment the other day, Kelli asked for ideas for how to eat coconut oil. She, like me, can’t stand eating it straight. In this post, I gathered up some of my ideas, ideas offered in comments, and a lip-smackin’ idea from Peggy @ Local Nourishment’s blog. Please add your own ideas!

RFQM: Proteins Q & A

Another Real Food Quote Monday (RFQM), another Q & A… This question comes from a reader, Tiffany. She asks, “I was hoping you could explain about the proteins in beans and legumes. I’ve heard some vegetarian friends say you have to have a grain with your beans to make a complete protein out of the nutrients. It just doesn’t jive. If the nutritional content is 9g protein per serving, isn’t that what’s there?”

RFQM: Iodine Q & A

qanda

Today’s RFQM (Real Food Quote Monday) is also a Q & A. Someone asked my husband recently about regular table salt – don’t we need the iodine it contains? The answer surprised me.

Audio Q & A: Grain Use In History

Today’s question is about the preparation of grains during Bible times. I’ll share my common sense answer, an excellent quote from the Weston A. Price Foundation, and also the audio file it prompted within the eCourse (another freebie). I can’t stress enough how open I am to your input, too. So if you’ve researched this and can expand on my simple answer, please do!

Q & A: BPA-Free Freezer Storage

Today, our question is from Jen, another college friend. She wondering about BPA-free freezer storage containers. Got any ideas? I’ve got a few and am looking forward to yours, too.

Q & A: Grain Mill Options

Today, we have two questions because they are both related to the issue of grain mills. They come from Jory, my college friend. She asks: 1) Which is the best way to grind grain: Vitamix (even though there is a danger of overheating the grain) or a grain mill? and 2) What are your reader’s experiences with Vitamix vs. Blendtec? Please, let’s help Jory out.
