Welcome back to another season of farm and homestead tours! I’m ready for more entries! Please read here for guidelines.
We’re heading down home… to your farms! Urban, suburban, or rural — whatever you’re growing and doing, we want to see it.
Welcome, Eating Locally CSA!
Meet the Romans family from Indiana. From their two farms they specialize in heirloom veggies of all kinds and share with others via their CSA. Visit their Eating Seasonally CSA Facebook page here.
What is your name and the names of your family members?
We’re the Romans Family. Dad, Billy, is the guy who does the tilling and maintaining of the perennial fruit. Helping with weeding. He has special interest in tomatoes. Mom, Nancy, oversees all aspects of planting and harvesting. She is the “original” farmer. Her special interest include herbs and teas. Nathan is the guy always in the garden. You will rarely see him at any market or CSA delivery. He has special interest in corn. His hobbies include hunting, fishing, trapping and taxidermy. Hannah is the asparagus girl. She helps with all marketing and CSA deliveries. Her hobby is raising quail. Andrew is 12 and helps wherever needed with special interest in the shade tree! Rhashell likes raising a little of everything with special interest in the CSA and greenhouse. She does the internet advertisement and marketing. Son-in-law Alan is the chef and loves all heirlooms with special interest in raised beds and tomatoes. Sorren, Billy and Nancy’s grandson and the son of Rhashell and Alan, is 6 and helps a little too much! He loves to harvest cucumbers with special interest in the swimming pool.
How long have you been farming/homesteading?
Share a brief description of your farm/homestead.

Came from a long line of farmers.
Any future plans?
Keep growing for ourselves as well as others. Install some more hoop houses.
Let’s Tour Eating Locally CSA!
(Wardee: In the captions below, you’re hearing from the Eating Locally CSA as they tell what is in each picture.)
So HAPPY! This hoophouse is finally coming together.
Getting ready for CSA deliveries.
Anaheim green chili and some black krim tomatoes.
This was one of our 1/2 share CSA deliveries; blackberries, cucumbers, yellow squash/zucchini, heirloom tomatoes, green beans, sweet peppers, and basil. Overly ripe peaches were the free item not pictured.
This is a couple size share with lettuce mix, kale, spinach, radishes, strawberries, cilantro, asparagus and garlic scapes!
A very important part of being sustainable — WATER. We are installing more water retaining ability, we are now at 4000 gallon capacity. These 2 tanks were installed for the use in drip line to the raised bed area.

Would you like to be featured?
Are you a homesteader or farmer at any level? You don’t have to live in the country, you don’t have to be doing everything.
Being on the journey is the only qualification. We want to see what you’re doing, no matter how big or small.
Click here for submission guidelines for the Down Home Farm Tours series. We’re excited to hear from you!
If you’re selected, we will share your farm/homestead pictures and stories in a dedicated blog post, plus you can add the featured graphic to your blog or website. And, we’ll give you a free thank you video of your choice!
