Because this week’s update is so picture-heavy, I’m going to point you below and let the snapshots speak for themselves.
Our Week in Pictures
By the way, most of these pictures are from @gnowfglins on Instagram, which I welcome you to follow for a daily glimpse.
Our week began last Saturday when my husband and children poured cement for the volleyball net posts.
The cement cured for a few days and we called the posts good. Actually, they were very good. This crew did a great job.
And so by Friday afternoon, the net was hung and it was time to play…
We were gifted tons of Bartlett pears. That means pear sauce in our yogurt all week, plus pureed pears turned into fruit leather — as much as I can. As soon as I finish posting this weekly update, guess where I’m headed? Yep, to the kitchen to get more pears drying.
The garden has been very good to us. Or should I say, God has been very good to us through the garden!
One day I had 3 ripe slicing tomatoes (plus a bunch of cherry tomatoes). That was a high that hasn’t repeated since.
With zucchini in abundance, I have shredded and dried it, and shredded and froze it, and baked with it, and added it to dishes, and one evening we had “zoodles”! I have a new spiralizer and it did a great job. These are created using the thicker setting, which I really like. Cooked and tossed in cast iron with butter, sea salt and pepper. What could be simpler? Or more delicious.
The peppers! Big and beautiful and colorful! We have some orange beauties, too.
The beets all came up. And as you saw yesterday, we did as much as we could with them — kvass, fermented shredded beets, and oven-roasted beets.
My son thought this one had quite the bulbous nose!
Because that cucumber jungle keeps producing, we can hardly keep up with the cucumbers. But one way is with my favorite salad — cucumber-yogurt salad.
It begins with crushing garlic with salt in this beautiful olive wood mortar and pestle from the Middle East. My parents gave that to me a long time ago and I love using it.
It was a busy, blessed, beautiful, delicious week. God is good to us, and I pray you feel His blessings, too.
