Genetic Roulette (giveaway)

The trailer above is from the amazing and life-changing expose about genetically modified (GM) foods from The Institute for Responsible Technology: Genetic Roulette.

We first watched Genetic Roulette a few weeks ago, when it was available for free online. Now it is free again — but only through tomorrow, the 17th of October, 2012 the end of the month (10/31/2012). This is a must watch movie.

You. Must. Watch.

Think you know all about genetically modified foods? Some of the evidence and information in this film will probably surprise you — maybe scare you.

You’ll hear the serious threats to your health from consuming genetically modified organisms (GMOs).

You’ll discover why genetically engineered foods are a major contributor to rising disease rates in the United States in both people and and animals — including gastrointestinal disorders, allergies, inflammatory diseases, and infertility.

You’ll be renewed in your dislike for corporations like Monsanto, who actively hide evidence of these dangers and collaborate with the FDA to shove the dangers under the rug.

Here’s more about the film from its makers:

Are you and your family on the wrong side of a bet?

When the US government ignored repeated warnings by its own scientists and allowed untested genetically modified (GM) crops into our environment and food supply, it was a gamble of unprecedented proportions. The health of all living things and all future generations were put at risk by an infant technology.

After two decades, physicians and scientists have uncovered a grave trend. The same serious health problems found in lab animals, livestock, and pets that have been fed GM foods are now on the rise in the US population. And when people and animals stop eating genetically modified organisms (GMOs), their health improves.

This seminal documentary provides compelling evidence to help explain the deteriorating health of Americans, especially among children, and offers a recipe for protecting ourselves and our future.

Sadly, some people don’t know they’re eating GMOs, why they shouldn’t, or even what to do about it once they find out.

In fact, here’s another video that shows how some Whole Foods staff members are badly misinformed about GMOs in our foods — people you think would know the difference! (Sadly, the video also shows that Whole Foods isn’t interested in perfect honesty when it comes to GMOs.)

This is the kind of information that needs to get out there. So we can protect ourselves — and fight back.

Here’s How to Fight Back

If you live in California, you can fight back by voting YES! on Proposition 37 — the ballot initiative that requires food companies to label GMO foods. If a food contains GMOs, then the label should say so. (Pretty simple, right?)

Anyone, anywhere can fight back (as my family is doing) by not eating GMO foods — nor feeding them to livestock and pets.

Anyone, anywhere can fight back by encouraging others to watch the Genetic Roulette movie. You’ve got four choices:

  • Refer friends and family to the website to watch it free through October 31st, 2012.
  • Refer friends and family to the website to watch it for a minimum donation of $2.99 (when it is no longer free).
  • Buy a DVD to pass around to friends and family (we bought two for this purpose).
  • Buy a DVD to give away (we bought two more for this purpose… see below).

As I just mentioned, we purchased four copies of the DVD. We plan to keep two, passing them around to friends and family. Like a personal lending library.

The other two we purchased to give away right here on this blog.

We’re giving away two copies of the Genetic Roulette movie. This giveaway is entirely sponsored by GNOWFGLINS, and open to anyone anywhere. However, the DVDs are in the NTSC format, so depending on where you live, you may have to watch on a computer instead of with a DVD player.

There are three ways to enter.

First (mandatory), leave a comment below sharing what you personally (just you, or you and your family) are going to do about GMOs. Here are just a few examples of how simple or specific your declaration can be:

“I’m going to watch the Genetic Roulette movie to learn more about this issue.”

“My family and I are not going to eat any GM foods.”

“I’m going to stop feeding genetically modified feed to our livestock.”

“I’m going to buy a copy of the Genetic Roulette DVD to share with friends and family.”

Second (optional), like the GNOWFGLINS page on Facebook.

Third (optional), here’s a photo I put on my Facebook page. Click here to go to it, then click on “Share” to share it on your wall or page.

  1. we are trying to not eat them and are working on growing/producing our own food :)

  2. We buy our vegetables from a CSA. We drink raw milk and eat eggs and meat from a local farm. We buy Mostly organic fruit. We buy organic grain and grind it to make our own baked goods. we grew a small garden this year. We recycle and reuse. thanks!!

  3. Sue Hanley says:

My husband and I do not (knowingly!) eat any GM food. Only organics enter our household! I need to eat gluten-free, which often contains corn — a huge risk for GMO corn, so everyone check closely, or avoid foods with corn! I try to post info on Facebook, plus email friends who don’t Facebook — eating GMO = poisoning yourself. Thanks for this news, and all the info that you deliver, GNOWFGLINS!

  4. I have been very careful not to purchase GMO corn and soybean product…which has been hard, since they’re in all sorts of products. I’m growing my own veggies, and have tried to spread the word on Pinterest and Facebook about GMO’s.

  5. i hope to be able to watch the movie. i’m assuming it will be wonderful…at which point i hope to be able to share with otherr

  6. Want to see this video. We live overseas (military) and will request our commissary stock organic corn….I realize that there are many other GMOs in our grocery store, but this is one little step I can take. We avoid GMOs as much as possible with our purchases, but corn is the most difficult one.

  7. It is frustrating for me as I am a single (adoptive) mom with health issues and not a great income so I really have to struggle to buy organic foods, but I do try to do apples and sometimes onions are okay. I only buy organic frozen corn and we just don’t eat a lot. I try to make others aware and get more interested because if we rise up together something will get done. But most don’t seem interested, which is sad. But I will keep trying! We live on a heavily wooded lot and had no success with a garden, but next year I plan to do more to seek out local farms. We found a blueberry guy who doesn’t spray pesticides so that was something! We ate those as much as we could.

  8. We will be trying to grow our own veggies from non-GMO seeds and raising our own beef and chicken without any GMO added to their feed.

  9. We love making nachos but stopped buying Tostitos tortilla chips. I found a delicious organic brand called Way Better. They also use sprouted ingredients!

  10. We are trying our best to not eat any GMO’s and growing our own foods as much as we can.

  11. Hannah Elise says:

I would love to find ways to feed fewer GM crops to our livestock… since organic feed is 3x the $$ at our local feed store, I’m not entirely sure how to go about doing this on our very tight budget…

  12. Stephanie C says:

My family and I have been working on not buying GMO food for almost a year now. We have a garden to grow our own veggies and soon to be fruit and herbs. I’m hoping to watch this movie so I can educate what foods GMO’s are in. I make everything at home. I can veggies, meat, jams and tomatoes. In 3yrs we are hoping to purchase land and become self-sustainable. Thank you so much for this awesome website!

  13. Thanks for supporting Prop 37, even though neither of us are in CA.

  14. We avoid GMO’s already, but I’ve been pushing others to watch the documentary – very eye-opening!

  15. I am going to watch to movie and learn more. I am working on getting rid of GMO foods out of our diet.

  16. Laurie White says:

What would be clever is for anyone who owns a blog is to make up a totally natural no-GMO food list especially for people who are on food stamps to use each week. If people can use their food stamps card then there would be more companies listening. My sister in law might even jump into this campaign if she found a list like this and could truly feed her family of 5 from the list. Does anyone already do this? I’m concerned for people like my sister-in-law. How can they jump onto our band wagon? I’m even more concerned for my niece and mother who have so much of these allergies GMO has caused for them in their lives and they didn’t know. It would be really funny for them to jump on this with their food cards, government fought with their own money tickles me pink!

Whatever is righteous, God is in the midst. Whoever He is for who can be against? Praise God.

  17. After watching half the movie so far, I will be extra careful about what I buy and eat. Monsanto has created a plague!

  18. I am very interested in watching Genetic Roulette and learning more!

  19. Thank you so much for sharing this link. I’ve been reading “Seeds of Deception” and have been outraged. It’s time to buckle down and give only organic feed to my animals. I called the company that makes my favorite corn tortillas today to ask if their corn was GMO. I’m happy to report that Juanita’s uses non-GMO corn. Woo. Hoo. Now I have to make a phone call to the place where I buy our alfalfa for our dairy goats. Ugh. Stop the madness.

  20. I will watch this and share it with others to inform them of the dangers of GMOs

  21. Andrea In SLC says:

We watched this last night. Frightening!

We already have been trying to decrease the GMOs in our diet and we will try even harder now!

I also emailed the link to our friends who sell grass-fed beef, pastured pigs and chickens, and raw milk, and thanked them for what they are doing.

  22. We grow organic vegetables for our family and to sell to our community and focus on educating our community about organic lifestyles.

  23. With my schedule I haven’t even been able to watch this when it’s freely available and that is a shame.

  24. oh and I posted too fast: what I do is shop local, organic farmers and avoid products with corn or soy products in them at every turn. It’s not always easy, but for my health and for this world, it’s worthwhile.

  25. We are trying to avoid GM foods and educating our family about the dangers. We’re also trying to write letters to Congressmen when the bills come up addressing the licensing of various GM products.

  26. We avoid GMOs as much as possible by growing much of our food, cooking most things from scratch, and buying from local farmers who we know and trust.

  27. We are making some major changes about what food comes into our homes and our mouths.I want to watch this movie to learn more about this.

  28. Emile mailo says:

thank u so much for sharing this link.i really need watching that video

  29. I have been talking about this movie non-stop for the past 3 days, sending emails to others, asking websites to post links to the movie.
The bulk of my family’s diet is made from scratch. We belong to a coop and buy organic bulk items. I try to buy direct from farmers as much as I can afford to. We have 3 chickens we let roam the yard and I buy the rest of my eggs from a friend. When we do go to the grocery store it is for very specific items that I know (to the best of my understanding) don’t contain gmos. Food search & prep (& o geez clean up) is very time & labor intensive, sometimes I am out right exhausted and discouraged I don’t have time for much else, but the film maker believes it only takes 5% of the population to make a dent in the profits of companies using ge ingredients and they will change their marketing strategy to meet demands so they can increase their profits again. So lets make them change, don’t buy their garbage and then let’s kick Monsanto to the curb!

  30. We farm and have found out that the corn stalks take longer to decompose (up to 10 years longer) we have switched to non GMO crops and feed out cattle with what we grow.
We have seen a big difference in our soil quality in the 3 years that we have planted non GMO.
I look forward to seeing this video.
Please everyone spread the word it is of the utmost importance!!

  31. This is even far worse than I thought! Thank you for bringing this video to our attention. I plan to continue to spread the word.

  32. We have been eating non-GMO in our family of five for a couple of years now. After watching the movie (thanks for putting that here!), I have decided to write my legislators regarding GMOs. I will also be watching to see how the California measure goes; it would be nice to use it as a template in our state.

  33. I would love to win a copy of “Genetic Roulette.” I would love to be able to have more non GMO options for animal feed – it is expensive.

  34. I would love to watch this movie “the Genetic Roulette” so we can learn more about GMO.
    Thank you,
