Grain Mills: Free Webinar + Free Mills + More

Our next free webinar is coming up late next week: Friday, March 9, 2012 at 1pm Pacific. I’ve asked a special and knowledgeable guest — my friend Vickilynn Haycraft of Real Food Living — to share her expertise on the topic of grain mills.

Vickilynn has been using and reviewing products and tools of the homemaking vocation for over 25 years. She really knows her stuff!

This webinar will take about an hour. After Vickilynn shares her knowledge, we’ll take time for Q&A. And everyone will take home a PDF of all the information shared.

You can register for the webinar at this link. Those who register get exclusive access to the replay — handy if you can’t make the actual event.

The webinar will also kick-off two drawings for free grain mills and more! Here are the details.

Drawing #1: A grain mill discount code and a drawing for a free Wondermill!

Millers Grain House is offering a grain mill savings code and a drawing for a free mill.

At the webinar ONLY, you will hear a discount code to take $5 off your purchase of any Wondermill Mill (manual or electric). When you use that code, you will be automatically entered into a drawing to win a FREE Wondermill of the alternate power. (In other words, if you buy the electric Wondermill and win the drawing, you’ll get a free manual Wondermill, or vice versa).

You will have until Thursday, March 15, 2012 at midnight to get in on this. One name will be selected on Friday, March 16, 2012 as the blessed winner of the alternate mill to keep or share with someone in need! Millers Grain House will contact the winner via email.

Drawing #2: A Nutrimill + 2# sprouted berries + 3# unsprouted berries giveaway!

Amazing Graze Farm Store is giving away one Nutrimill, plus you’ll also get 2 pounds of sprouted/unground berries from JoshEWEa’s Garden and three pounds of hard red wheat berries from Palouse Brand (a sustainable farm in Washington).

Though this giveaway is open to everyone, webinar attendees can get 3 extra entries. A verbal code will be given during the webinar, so to hear it and use it for the giveaway you must attend the live webinar or watch the replay.

This giveaway will begin just after the webinar (check the blog on Friday, March 9, 2012) and will end on Sunday, March 18, 2012 at midnight. The winner will be announced on the blog on Monday, March 19, 2012.

I will see you at the webinar next Friday. Is there anything in particular you’d like to know about grain mills? Leave a comment below.

These drawings are sponsored by Millers Grain House, Amazing Graze Farm, JoshEWEa’s Garden, and Palouse Brand. GNOWFGLINS receives no monetary compensation, though we did get to sample some awesome food. We whole-heartedly endorse them as quality small businesses deserving of your patronage!

I have been thinking about buying a grain mill but I hear they are (1) very loud and (2) create quite a bit of dust. I would like to see a demonstration!

  2. Katie S says:

What mill do you suggest for grinding corn? I currently use a Family Grain Mill and it is painfully slow and ‘needy’ when attempting to grind corn.

  3. I would love to attend your webinars, but they all take place during working hours. I registered fro the last one, but was unable to catch the repeat. It would be lovely if you could do these on evenings or weekends. I don’t understand why most webinars are offered during working hours, when most Americans are AT WORK. Why are they not offered during hours when we are at home? I can’t exactly stop doing my job on a weekday to attend a webinar! At least not if I watn to keep my job, I can’t!

    • Wardeh says:

Catherine — I’m sorry the webinar times don’t work for you. However, the replays are up for 2 to 3 weeks (sometimes 4), so I hope in the future you’ll be able to catch them that way.

  4. Sher in Ky says:

I can’t seem to get to the form to sign up for the webinar. All links to sign up leads me to the ABCs of Grain Mills blog page or “no data received” errors. Is registration full now? Thanks!

  5. Alyssa says:

I would like to hear if the nutritional value changes in the flour if milled by electric or hand? And what affordable grain mills are out there that don’t cost $300 ?

I would love to know a good formula for grinding the amount of flour I need.
For example if I need 4 cups of flour to make bread, how much wheat or spelt should I grind?
    Thanks

It seems the sign up issues have been resolved and I’m registered, whew! I made an event on my new calendar schedule so I can show up early (that webinar setup takes a bit to learn my way around).

I’m glad to have the opportunity to ask which mill would be best for someone that doesn’t eat much wheat (we’re not celiac or allergic, but it slows DH down terribly, but we still occasionally enjoy pasta or flour tortillas for fajitas or quesadillas, but only corn for enchiladas LOL). But I would like to be able to grind other stuff too, like corn meal or course, or maybe even learn to make my own oats for overnight (soaked in the fridge) oatmeal or granola, if it’s possible.

    • Dew says:

I missed it because DH’s coworker brought in some kind of bug and made everyone sick, so of course DH brought it home. At least I’ll be able to read the playback when it’s posted.
