The Simple Lives Thursday Blog Hop
Welcome to Simple Lives Thursday, a blog hop dedicated to simple living. “Consume less, produce more. ” So many topics fit: Gardening, raising animals, cooking from scratch, real food, natural cleaners, sewing, recycling, thrifting, a mindset of simplicity, saving a buck…
This blog hop is hosted by (a shortened list due to hosts taking much-needed breaks):

- Alicia @ Culinary Bliss

Featured Posts from Last Week’s Submissions

We really enjoy reading your posts each week! Featured post bloggers, please grab the badge above and display it on your site! Link it to one of the host blogs’ posts for the specific week that you were featured.
Here are our picks from last week’s submissions. Thanks to all who participated — it is always hard to choose!
1. How I Learned To Let Go Of Fear by The Stockpot. “Now that my children aren’t infants anymore, I needed to get out of the “Helicopter Parent” mindset (hovering over the children constantly, over-parenting) and start letting my children and me gain a bit of independence. And so began my journey of letting go of my fear.”
2. My Helper by a number of things. “Lilly is one of those children that kind hearted people stare at, smile and say, ‘Wow. She sure is a busy one!’ Ha. The more I think about it, the more ‘busy’ really does seem to be the right word (and so much nicer than a few others that might apply). She gets into positively everything, and keeping her ‘busy’ is sometimes the only way we can all stay remotely sane.”
3. Hard Cider: Part 1 by An Austin Homestead Moved West. “On Tuesday, I whipped up a small batch of ‘starter’ that I used the next day to start some hard cider and get my vinegar going a little more quickly. I’m worried that our apartment is going to be just too cold for fermentation, but I’m not paying a higher electricity bill just to get some hooch and vinegar.”
Share Your Simple Lives Thursday Post
Bloggers, make a “Simple Lives Thursday” post on your own blog, then come back here to add your post to the linky box below the featured posts. If you don’t have a picture, feel free to download the Simple Lives Thursday banner (at top of post) and upload it using the script’s prompts (it is easy). Your post will appear on all host blogs!
Non-bloggers, feel free to add a comment here with any ideas or thoughts about simple living.
These are two simple guidelines for participation:
1. If linking real, traditional and simple recipes, please make sure all ingredients used are whole — such as whole grains, vegetables, legumes, meats, even sugar. In order to keep the integrity of “nourishing” food, we will delete any recipes that utilize processed, boxed foods. We are definitely not going to be ingredient policemen! But, please note that this is a hop hosted by advocates of the real, local and sustainable food movements.
2. Please link your posts back to one of the hosting blogs. This is a common blog hop courtesy. This link helps build the Simple Lives Thursday community by sending your readers to all of the other participants’ posts. We all end up sharing and learning from each other.
What will you share this week? We all look forward to your submissions!

Today I shared my “guide” to tiny kitchens. Living small is one of the main aspects for me of keeping my life simple, debt free, and sane. So I thought I’d share some of the pros and tips for making it work. http://www.clickclackgorilla.com/2011/03/08/the-gorilla-guide-to-tiny-kitchens/

Hi,

Me and my girls were invited last weekend to a pilot program at a local Bed & Breakfast put on by a grant from our county. It was a free cooking class for families to teach nutrition, encourage eating local, homegrown foods, and inspire families to bond in the kitchen. Incredible idea that I hope they continue!
This is one of the recipes they sent home with us, along with lots of ideas for it’s use. You can read more about our experience and see photos here:

Today I shared 2 posts: the first is part of my ongoing series on how to homestead wherever you are. This week we are talking about folks who have just a few acres. And they still have lots of options!
The 2nd post is how and why to feed eggshells to your chicken flock. A (surprisingly) slightly controversial topic, if I might add.
