Who’s the incredible cook and photographer behind this marvelous ebook? My good friend Marillyn Beard from Just Making Noise. She, her husband Jon and their three children live in Honduras as missionaries for youth (visit the Rancho Oasis for Youth website). Here are a few words from Mare about her life and family’s ministry.

“I am a wife to 1 amazing man, a mama of 3 beautiful kids and a missionary in Honduras. We are currently living on 6 and a half acres of land surrounded by gorgeous pines and mountains, starting up our ministry Rancho Oasis for Youth.

I’ve been writing my blog, Just Making Noise: Sound Bites From a Deaf Mama, since 2009 because I love to share my passions for healthy food, wholesome lifestyle and photography. I also love to make healthy sweets (especially ice cream!) and try to cook almost everything I can from scratch.

My family and I are learning how to run a productive homestead and currently learning many things from gardening and caring for animals. We desire to teach the people in the surrounding villages how to raise their own food through the square-foot gardening method and caring for goats to provide milk. Your purchase of this book is helping us reach those goals to not only help the Honduran people, but to also spread the gospel of Jesus Christ! Thank you!”

She’s inspirational! And such a sweetheart. I hope to meet her in person someday!

My Favorite Parts

Now you all know how much I love cultured foods, so I’m sure you’re not surprised that I am most excited about the 9 cultured milk recipes — the lime and white chocolate and vanilla with honey cinnamon swirl are likely to hit the Harmon household soon. :)

Secondly, Mare included one of my 7 tips for great homemade ice cream (to not fill the freezer container all the way) — and she brought three more tips to the table that will surely help my ice cream making skills from here on out.

Mare, you’re obviously a pro at this. Thank you for taking the time from your busy, fulfilling life to create such a beautiful and comprehensive resource for all of us!

  16. Personally, two of my hobbies are photography and whole-foods cooking! Looks like this beautiful cookbook puts both of those together in one. We have a handful of kids (and two parents!) who would love to glean from the wisdom and enjoy from the recipes included in this book. Thanks!

  17. Exciting! Man, I would love this book to help me come up with some good dairy free ice creams – I am nursing and my son is very sensitive to dairy. We made a lot of ice cream before baby, but I had to cut out all dairy a few months after he was born. I loved making it at home; nothing better than homemade ice cream!! I sure do miss ice cream….

Looks like an interesting book. I just started drinking raw milk. But our store doesn’t carry butter or any other product made from raw milk. I’ve been fascinated reading how to make your own cream cheese, butter, etc and making ice cream from cultured milk…well that isn’t something you find everywhere. Can’t wait to try it.

  25. This book is right up my alley, I love making as much as I can and ice cream is no different, but of course I don’t have a ice cream maker at the moment. I tired all the tricks, but it still turns out rock hard and icy and if this book offers tips for making it without and on buying a ice cream maker, that may help me out if I where to win it. Though I am looking for a ice cream maker and off course I’m trying to get on a share to get a source of raw milk and the cultured ice cream recipes sound like something I would be really interested in.
