Who’s the incredible cook and photographer behind this marvelous ebook? My good friend Marillyn Beard from Just Making Noise. She, her husband Jon and their three children live in Honduras as missionaries for youth (visit the Rancho Oasis for Youth website). Here are a few words from Mare about her life and family’s ministry.

“I am a wife to 1 amazing man, a mama of 3 beautiful kids and a missionary in Honduras. We are currently living on 6 and a half acres of land surrounded by gorgeous pines and mountains, starting up our ministry Rancho Oasis for Youth.

I’ve been writing my blog, Just Making Noise: Sound Bites From a Deaf Mama, since 2009 because I love to share my passions for healthy food, wholesome lifestyle and photography. I also love to make healthy sweets (especially ice cream!) and try to cook almost everything I can from scratch.

My family and I are learning how to run a productive homestead and currently learning many things from gardening and caring for animals. We desire to teach the people in the surrounding villages how to raise their own food through the square-foot gardening method and caring for goats to provide milk. Your purchase of this book is helping us reach those goals to not only help the Honduran people, but to also spread the gospel of Jesus Christ! Thank you!”

She’s inspirational! And such a sweetheart. I hope to meet her in person someday!

My Favorite Parts

Now you all know how much I love cultured foods, so I’m sure you’re not surprised that I am most excited about the 9 cultured milk recipes — the lime and white chocolate and vanilla with honey cinnamon swirl are likely to hit the Harmon household soon. :)

Secondly, Mare included one of my 7 tips for great homemade ice cream (to not fill the freezer container all the way) — and she brought three more tips to the table that will surely help my ice cream making skills from here on out.

Mare, you’re obviously a pro at this. Thank you for taking the time from your busy, fulfilling life to create such a beautiful and comprehensive resource for all of us!

First of all, I appreciate the one entry only rule and not having to ‘tweet’ this,or ‘favorite’ that,or ‘like’ this. Thanks for making it simple :) I would love to win this recipe book because I do not own an ice cream maker, I have a bunch of kids who love ice cream, and it looks like this recipe book is perfect for that. Thanks for the giveaway!oh- and next Thursday is 9/1-not 10/1!

This book looks great! My husband and I love ice cream but with all the fake stuff that ahem, affordable ice cream has in it, I think that it would be much better to make our own.

  9. Laura says

I have fond childhood memories of eating homemade ice cream. I would love to learn how to give those memories to my kids. I’d love to win!

  10. Deanna says

I love to make ice-cream but I lack the imagination to make up my own recipes! I’ve tried Mare’s recipe for oatmeal cookie dough she had on her blog awhile ago and I loooooovvvved it! I would love to win her book 😉

  11. Jodi says

I am so excited that Marillyn made a cookbook! She has such great recipes! She inspired me to start making my own ice cream and I make it all the time! My family loves ice cream! I would love to have her recipes added to mine! Thank you!

  12. jan says

I would love to win this ebook as I looooove ice cream! My hubby always teases me by telling others how my face lights up at the mention of it and how I have practically jumped off the motorcycle when coming up to a DQ.
My body probably would be grateful to have a healthy version as I have ulcerative colitis as part of my Lyme disease. (I know, I am not supposed to have sugar at all, but don’t remove my chance to win!)

  13. says

Hey, this book looks great. If you tell me what info to share, I’d be glad to feature it on my blog, too! Love, love, love ice cream so healthy ice cream recipes, especially with cultured milk, interest me!

  14. Susan says

I would love to win, cause…you said ice cream after all. Homemade ice cream is one of my favorite treats, and dh loves gelato, but i’ve not come across many recipes for it, so (i’m prolly looking in the wrong place but)

  15. Diane says

i just started getting fresh raw goats milk and an ice cream maker! Now all I need is a book!!

  16. Paula says

OH WOW!!! I would LOVE to win this ice cream recipe book! Why? Because I am sick and tired of all the artificial and unnecessary ingredients that are harmful to my kids. I would LOVE to make my own, not to mention the fact it is one more way I can get cultured foods into my picky eaters (I so wish I had known then what I know now so I could have started my kids eating right). Thanks for the opportunity to win! 😀

  17. Jennie says

I would LOVE to have this book! We enjoy eating fresh, healthy food, but how wonderful it would be to be serve a sweet treat…and not have to worry about all the artificial ingredients in commercial ice creams!

  18. says

I would love this book! I grew up eating Breyer’s. It USED to be 100% natural (milk, cream, sugar and fruit) and it was a staple in our house. Now Breyer’s still sells “100% natural” however, it is loaded with Corn Syrup and other unnecessary ingredients. I eat a completely traditional diet and would LOVE to scratch a sweet tooth itch in a healthy way!

  19. Paula Hofhansl says

That e-book sounds fantastic! We have a nice ice cream maker that has only been used twice this summer. Fingers crossed!

  20. says

I keep telling my husband that we need to make our own ice cream. My mom has an ice cream maker so I know the wonderful world of homemade! This book would give me a really good reason to go buy a machine. :)

  22. Shannan says

Biggest and most important reason why I’d like to win a copy of this ebook… my SON!! He has a SEVERE tree nut ALLERGY!!!! Going to the ice cream shop and getting to see and choose from all those wonderful flavors is forbidden for him bc of the risk of cross contamination. It would be so awesome to be able to make all kinds of wonderful and nourishing ice cream for him at home. It’s so important to know exactly what is in the ice cream and where the ingredients came from, so that we don’t put his life in danger!! :)

  23. says

I would LOVE this ebook! We have been making raw milk ice cream ALMOST weekly this summer, and I’m always looking for new ideas :-)

  24. Helena says

I would love to have a copy of this. We love ice cream at our house and it’s so much healtheir than other sweets. Plus it might just make me go and buy an ice cream maker.

  25. Christie says

My husband, daughter and son can drink goat’s milk, and so far I’ve only made vanilla ice cream using raw goat’s milk … it was delicious. I’d love to win and try out new flavors!

  26. Denise says

I do make ice cream but I think it would be wonderful to learn more about it and how to make it healthier would be a bonus too. I dont like to keep too many sweets around the house because we always eat them up so fast and anything I can do to make them healthier is a bonus.

  27. says

I live in Southern California and have four very hungry children who love sweet, healthy treats. We can make ice cream year round here, and it would be nice to have new, exciting recipes to try!

  28. Julie says

My husband loves to have a bowl of ice cream nightly before bed. If I could make a variety of more HEALTHY options, that would be soooo wonderful!!

  29. Kori Ireland says

Wow this makes me crave sweet coldness! Here where it’s still in the 100’s in August. I LOVE to make ice cream but haven’t done much because I just have been addicted to some store brands. 30. penny thompson says

I would love to win this e-book on ice cream. Who doesn’t love ice cream. Esp. during hot days. But then again, I would eat it even on cold days. :-) I don’t have a ice cream maker so I would love to learn about making ice cream without an maker. Have a great day.

  31. says

I’m headed over to buy the book now-if I were to win I’d host another giveaway on my blog and help spread the word about their mission.

We’ve been making goat milk ice cream for about a year using the basic vanilla recipe and we want to try new stuff. Love that I can eat a probiotic ice cream!

Thanks for sharing about this book and the mission!

  36. Shannon says

Sounds like a wonderful book. I totally agree that making homemade ice cream without all of the junk that they put into commercially made ice cream is definitely the way to go!

  37. Dionna Smith-Clark says

Winning this ebook would be a SWEET Blessing!! I am so thankful for your eCourse and the combined knowledge of all the contributors. I’ve been telling others and my goal is to eat the way God originally intended for us. I’ve been on this journey for a few short years now, but the insight I’ve gained is worth a lifetime!

To think, I found GNOWGLINS doing a Google search for Homemade Crackers! (Now how many people do that?) My children are loving the recipes and I’m loving the intended use of God’s Natural, Organic, Whole Foods, Grown Locally In Season! :-)

Winning this ebook is further proof that eating natural, healthy foods is anything but bland. Others think I’m crazy for searching out the truth, but I declare my family’s health and cures from ALL ailments will be the true testimony!

Thank you for this opportunity and may God’s blessings be with you and your family as you spread the good news of Jesus Christ!

    Best regards,

    Dionna Smith-Clark

  38. valerie says

I was so excited to see Mare write this eBook. And Wardee, she is as wonderful in person as she is in her blog. (I’ve known her since she was about 6 years old!) You will be totally blessed if you ever get to meet her! I have been on a homemade ice cream kick since I picked up a Donvier ice cream maker at a thrift store for $2.00 while on vacation. Score!!!

  45. Christina says

I just decided yesterday that we should kick our store-bought ice cream habit and I should start making my own, so I was thrilled to see this giveaway and e-book! I don’t have an ice cream maker yet, but this might tide me over until I get one. :o)

  46. Mallory Sanders says

I would love to win this book because ice cream is my very favorite treat and I would love to know how I could enjoy it and be putting something nourishing in my body at the same time!

  47. Rachel says

Thank you for your labors on this! I would be so pleased to have more recipes to help me find special ways to encourage my family and friends.

  48. Jamie says

I want to win because you make it sound so delicious and look so easy! Which is the best icecream maker? I don’t know! I’d love to win the book so I can find out and start making our own icecream! Thank you, Wardee, for the contest. And it was a pleasure to ‘meet’ Mare.

  49. Cyndi says

What a wonderful looking book! If we won this book I am sure my children would go wild making ice cream!

  50. says

Hi! I too would love to win this ebook! :) I just bought my first ice cream maker for myself for my birthday in June. We were in the states for a 2 month break from being missionaries in Rwanda & my plan was to bring my machine with me back to Rwanda! Unfortunately, our family had so much stuff to bring for our next 9 months, and the machine is big & heavy, so I could not bring it. :`( So sad! However, we will be going back to the states in June for an extended time & I am very anxious to get that machine cranking out some awesome nourishing ice cream.
I also discovered something interesting: before we left I had been making my own yogurt using a viili culture. I decided to freeze some of my yogurt while we were gone & then when we returned I thawed it out & started using it again. It cultured up the milk just like it had before. What that tells me is that live cultures DO survive freezing! (Something I had wondered about & heard mixed reports on.)
Thanks for sponsoring this give away- so much fun! :)

I’ve also been caring for my husband full time since late 2009, when he was struck in a devastating car accident, which resulted in a traumatic brain injury and stroke. He’s slowly finding his way back to recovery through intense therapy, and the love and support of our family and kids. Though we’ve been gluten free for awhile now, I’ve since begun learning about and implementing a true whole foods lifestyle, and we’ve seen such improvement in my husband, and our food allergies too! However, it has been driving me nuts for a long time how ice cream is made with particular emphasis on saving it to eat later. I am kucoo crazy about the recipes for gelato, too, as all my research has left me unfulfilled. This could be my dream book come true!!!!!!!! It would be great to get as a gift, because it is my wedding anniversary month. As I spent time looking throught the website of Rancho Oasisi For Youth, I want to say praise the Lord for families that God has taken to other countries to share his love. I grew up in a missionary family in Africa. I love to hear about others that God is using.

I most excited about the frozen cultured milk. I have only done it one time with yogurt and my family wasn’t impressed. (too tart) I would like to try some other recipes. I’ll bet her versions are great. The presentation of the book looks beautiful!

I love my ice cream maker, but we are in something of a rut. I usually make vanilla with maple and mint thrown in for variety. I would love to learn to make ice cream from healthier ingredients and expand my flavor choices.

Personally, two of my hobbies are photography and whole-foods cooking! Looks like this beautiful cookbook puts both of those together in one. We have a handful of kids (and two parents!) who would love to glean from the wisdom and enjoy from the recipes included in this book. Thanks!

  125. Sierra says

Exciting! Man, I would love this book to help me come up with some good dairy free ice creams – I am nursing and my son is very sensitive to dairy. We made a lot of ice cream before baby, but I had to cut out all dairy a few months after he was born. I loved making it at home; nothing better than homemade ice cream!! I sure do miss ice cream….

  126. Ceejay says

I absolutely love making ice cream! And the idea of making cultured ice cream sounds fantastic–I’ve never tried it but have been thinking about how I could do it for a while.

This book looks wonderful, I would love to win this. We have loved making your choc kefir ice cream this summer and would love to try making even more frozen healthy treats!
Wow, and the photos look amazing.

Looks like an interesting book. I just started drinking raw milk. But our store doesn’t carry butter or any other product made from raw milk. I’ve been fascinated reading how to make your own cream cheese, butter, etc and making ice cream from cultured milk…well that isn’t something you find everywhere. Can’t wait to try it.

  129. Ron says

Mouth watery food. I love this one. Since then I loved ice creams. It relaxes me and releases my tensions everytime I eat. I’m craving for an ice cream now.

  130. says

I want to win this because it is beautiful and everything looks delicious. and this might be the one ice cream book i don’t have in my collection!

  131. MeghanW says

This book is right up my alley, I love making as much as I can and ice cream is no different, but of course I don’t have a ice cream maker at the moment. I tired all the tricks, but it still turns out rock hard and icy and if this book offers tips for making it without and on buying a ice cream maker, that may help me out if I where to win it. Though I am looking for a ice cream maker and off course I’m trying to get on a share to get a source of raw milk and the cultured ice cream recipes sound like something I would be really interested in.

Hello! I am new to gnowfglins. I am the oldest boy in a family of eight. My family and I have recently been trying to learn how to make our own healthy foods. We have dairy goats, laying hens, meat rabbits, barn cats, ducks and English shepherd dogs. I would be honored to win this give away and I know it would be used very much! Everyone in my family loves ice cream and such and I believe this e-book would greatly aid my family and I to learn another way to make our own food!

    Thank you!

  133. Laura says

I would be soooooo excited to win. We love, love, love ice cream and I have tried making a few natural but haven’t hit on one everyone would eat above the grocery store varieties. By the way, thank you for all you do to enlighten 21st century people to the healthy ways of the past!
