  2. Grain free brownies .. the only way to get soaked pecans into my kids, unfortunately. These are very yummy for Moms and Dads too and as you can see from the picture, dark chocolatey in flavor.

I made an oxtail recipe this week from a Chinese cookbook – Chinese Home Cooking Made Easy by Shyh-Pwu Tien . The style of cooking is “red cooked” – which (I think) means cooking with a soy sauce base. It’s traditional home cooking, but not seen in restaurants. The recipe is:

    Ingredients:
    – 1 medium onion, cut into 1 1/2 inch squares
    – 1 carrot sliced in circles
    – 1 tomato cut in wedges
    – 2 pounds oxtails
    – 1 slice ginger (I did maybe 1 inch or so)
    – 4 T ketchup
    – 4 T soy sauce
    – 2 T cooking wine (I used shaoshing wine – since Bob won it at a chinese grocery)
    – 1 cup water
    – 1 T sugar
    – 1 1/2 t salt (possibly this could be reduced depending upon how salty the soy sauce is)
    – pinch of black pepper

    Method:

Put everything in a slow cooker & cook on low for 10 hours.

Enjoy! Makes a really good broth (but you will need to defat it).

Well I am ashamed to say that this is more of a week without GNOWFGLINS but I can assure it will not be happening again. In fact I am going to pull my sourdough out now and start some grains to soaking right after i get a much needed drink of water. Blessings Teri
