Another Kid, Sourdough Biscuits, and Green Beans

This is my post for today’s Tuesday Twister, to share with you about my week in the kitchen.

Making sourdough biscuits… so easy and quick for summer. We’ve been eating them with every meal lately, from breakfast to dinner and snacks in between. A batch takes less than 20 minutes. You’ll see those in the Sourdough eCourse.

Our best doe, Pegs, gave birth in the woods on Saturday, to a healthy buckling. We were all there, including Jeff’s parents. Can you imagine? Never a dull moment. :D Pegs is such a good Mama, and she’s overflowing with milk. Plenty for her baby and us. I suppose he will catch up soon, but for now, I am milking her morning and evening. After he is two weeks old, we will get the morning milk and he will get the rest. So now I am milking 4 does in varying amounts — we are loving the extra kefir and extra raw milk! Three more does to give birth in the coming months. Bring it on!

Green bean salad, which I wrote about yesterday. Hope I can find some more green beans this week. :D

Without pictures, let me tell you about a wonderful cake from Tara @ Keep It Real –> Spice Cake. It uses kefir for the soaking, has an amazing crumble top and low sweetening. We loved it! Jeff said it was one of his favorites. I used spelt flour instead of whole wheat, and also I didn’t have the molasses or banana, so I used date paste instead. I left comments at her post with more of my details, and it looks like others thought the cake was intriguing, too!

And one other thing, which I forgot to mention last week. I made chocolate ice cream two weeks ago, using my homemade bourbon vanilla. The ice cream was out of this world amazing. The vanilla made it just that much better. I’ll never go back to storebought vanilla again.

So that’s it for me! What’s been twisting in your kitchen over the last week? Head over to today’s Tuesday Twister post to link your post up!

Best of luck with the new “kid”! What a beautiful picture of him nursing! I love to know that a mamma can have enough milk for her baby and to share. That makes me feel very good! I know you are a good steward of your animals and I thank you for sharing your experiences with us! That sourdough biscuit idea has me thinking because I have quite a bit of starter and want to make something different! Will try it this weekend. Thanks for sharing the real food love on the two for tuesday recipe blog hop! :) Alex
