Thanksgiving… (And A Giveaway Coming Soon!)

IMG_6451

What are your Thanksgiving plans? We’re going to be at home, just the five of us. My husband wants to help with the cooking this year. We’re getting a heritage turkey from B & K Natural Farm in Sutherlin, Oregon. (That’s where we get our pastured eggs, too.) This is will be the third year that we’ve enjoyed their turkeys for both Thanksgiving and Christmas. Their birds are wonderful!

As far as my menu goes, I’m not done with it yet. Certainly, I’ll make the pumpkin pie we always make. Except this year, I’ll soak the almonds overnight to neutralize the enzyme inhibitors. That pie also happens to be gluten-free, dairy-free and egg-free and it is super yummy with great pumpkin flavor. If I can find some local sweet potatoes, we’ll have a sweet potato casserole. I want to make stuffing with my sourdough bread – my husband wants to make that.

I’ll figure out the rest of the menu after our Gallery of Thanksgiving Sides, coming up next Thursday on the 19th of November. It isn’t too late to let me know you want to participate – and it won’t be too late on the day of, either. So, think about contributing – the more, the merrier!

Now I’m going to make a nice little list of all the newsy Thanksgiving-related items I want to share with you. ;)

  • Coming up tomorrow or Monday, I’m going to be hosting an exciting giveaway for something that relates to Thanksgiving – so keep your eyes peeled. The giveaway will wrap up fast, so be prepared to act quickly – Thanksgiving is right around the corner and I want you to be able to use what you might win.
  • Here’s my recipe for Perfectly Moist Turkey, Every Time.
  • Here’s my recipe for Pumpkin Pie – Gluten-Free, Dairy-Free, and Egg-Free (though it is delicious in its own right, even if you don’t have to work around allergies!).
  • I’m working on my contribution to the Gallery of Thanksgiving Sides – a warming beverage, something we don’t do often enough!
  • The Gallery of Thanksgiving Sides is coming up next Thursday, the 19th – look forward to being inspired – and consider participating!

What are your Thanksgiving plans? What’s on your menu? Do you have any Thanksgiving traditions?

We always host Thanksgiving for my extended family. I love doing it, I love cooking and entertaining. My mother is bringing us the turkey from a farm near where she camps in the summer. Usually, the guests each bring a side, but our standards are turkey, maple-sweetened cranberry, squash, mashed potatoes, stuffing, and mashed rutabagas (which I hate but some family members love). Then I’ll add whatever seems good that year. Sometimes I make homemade sourdough (probably not this year), sometimes I make a salad, sometimes some green veggie like kale. I think I will do a baked apple and sweet potato dish this year. We have somewhere between 12-20 people, many of whom have dietary restrictions, so it’s good to have a range of dishes.
