Questions & Ideas For The Tuesday Twister

tuesdaytwister

I am excited about the first Tuesday Twister Blog Carnival – tomorrow! I hope lots of you will participate – and remember, to kick off the first week, I’ll be doing a giveaway for some of my homemade soap.

The Theme: The point of the Tuesday Twister is to share, through words and photos, what’s been twisting (with real foods) in your kitchen during the previous week.

I’ve received some questions about the Twister – and I will try to recap some of them here. If I’ve missed anything, let me know in the comments.

What if you don’t have much to share?

It doesn’t matter whether your post is long and detailed, or short and sweet. No matter how many things you have to share – real foods, of course – please do!

What is MckLinky?

MckLinky is a service which allows a website to collect, add, and create lists of links automatically. What this means is that you’ll be able to add the link of your Tuesday Twister post yourself. You won’t have to wait for me.

How will you know when it is time to add your post to the Mr. Linky?

My Tuesday Twisters post will be up by 9 am PST each Tuesday morning. I am aiming for sooner, but you know… things happen. So at least check here by then. Or subscribe to receive new posts via email and you’ll find out later in the morning that the post is live when you receive the email. Or add this feed to your favorite blog reader and your feed reader will be updated automatically when my post is live.

How do you use the Mr. Linky?

After you’ve made your own Tuesday Twister post, you come here to the Tuesday Twister post and look toward the bottom for the Mr. Linky box. Type your name in the first field. Add the link to your post in the second field. Click on “Enter.” Then, I’d love it if you would leave a comment in the comments area.

How do you add the Tuesday Twister photo to your post?

Right click on the Tuesday Twister graphic, and choose “Save As.” Save it to your computer in the desired folder. Then use your blog program to upload it and insert it into the post.

Alternately, you may include this image code in your post:

<img title=”tuesdaytwister” src=”http://gnowfglins.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/08/tuesdaytwister.JPG” alt=”tuesdaytwister” width=”200″ height=”200″ />

If you want the photo to link to the current Tuesday Twister post at gnowfglins.com, change the http://gnowfglins.com/current-post-URL/ to the current week’s URL.

<a href=”http://gnowfglins.com/current-post-URL/“><img title=”tuesdaytwister” src=”http://gnowfglins.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/08/tuesdaytwister.JPG” alt=”tuesdaytwister” width=”200″ height=”200″ /></a>

What post do you link to in your Tuesday Twister post?

This is important. From each Tuesday Twister post (of yours) you need to link to the current week’s Tuesday Twister post (at gnowfglins.com). Don’t link to gnowfglins.com or to an old Tuesday Twister post. It must be the current Tuesday Twister Blog Carnival post.

How long can you add a post to that week’s Tuesday Twister?

This is nothing set in stone. Certainly, if you add it on the Tuesday, that is best. Others will be more inclined to visit your post when the post here is fresh. But if want to join on Wednesday, that is good, too.

What if you don’t have a blog?

You may share in the comments anything that you’re twisting! Please do share!

What if you don’t have any pictures of what you’ve done in the kitchen?

That’s okay. Words and pictures, just words, just pictures… doesn’t matter – just show us what’s twisting! Even videos work! And wouldn’t that be fun? I hope to do some twisting videos in the future.

What about twitter and facebook?

I will be sharing all of your Tuesday Twister posts on twitter, and I hope you’ll do the same (if you twitter, that is). We can also share on facebook.

Below each post at gnowfglins.com, there are social bookmarking tools – so you can share any post from here easily on twitter, facebook, etc.

Where can you see an example of a Tuesday Twister post?

Look down below this post and you’ll see a list of all the Tuesday Twister posts I’ve made at gnowfglins.com. (This list is not present in a feed reader or email, only if you visit this post.) Your posts don’t have to look the same – but the idea is to recap your week in the kitchen through words and/or photos. It is like a kitchen journal, linking to recipes, sharing quick notes about how something worked or didn’t work, what things are happening in your life that affect the kitchen, trials and triumphs… Hopefully you get the idea.

How will the soap giveaway work?

Everyone who participates will be eligible to win. I’ll do an objective drawing, with the help of my children. Then I’ll mail the winner some homemade soap. Best wishes to everyone!

Anything else?

Let me know in the comments if you have other questions.

I’m excited about the Tuesday Twister blog carnival too! I want to see what has been twisting in everyone’s kitchens this week. What you have posted is very helpful. :)

I understand you have asked for us to post about “real foods”. I also understand what the acronym “GNOWFGLINS” stands for. Do the foods we feature for this blog carnival, along with being real, have to be organic, local and/or in season?

    • Wardeh says:

Marg – No, they don’t. We need to do the best we can. But the basic thing we need to do is start with real, whole ingredients. The more natural and organic they are, the better. The more local and seasonal they are, the better too. Hope that makes sense! See you tomorrow!
