For some weeks now, I have been writing Tuesday Twister posts, where I post pictures and brief summaries of the various doings in my kitchen and life – all real food related, of course.
See my Tuesday Twister post for today, as an example.
They are fun to write – the following are three reasons I started making the Tuesday Twister posts. After I explain all that, I’m going to give you an invitation to join a bigger and better Tuesday Twister. So keep reading to get down to the good stuff (including a giveaway)!
User-Friendly and Organized
First, I find it more friendly and more organized to make one post each week that contains all the bits and pieces of kitchen work. Otherwise, I’m likely to write posts like this:
- Post 1 – started making cheese today.
- Post 2 – took my cheese out of the mold today.
- Post 3 – my cheese is aging now.
- Post 4 – I waxed my cheese today (or I put it in brine).
- Post 5 – we tasted the cheese today and wow, was it ever hokey!
With the Tuesday Twister posts, things get covered, but not ad nauseum.
The Pretty Factor
Second, I think my Tuesday Twister posts are pretty. I really do. Please don’t burst my bubble, if you disagree.
I am trying to work on my food photography, even though I feel that I am more copy-cat than creative genius. To me, making a set of photos and corresponding descriptions is not only interesting, it is pretty.
Journal
Third, these posts are like my kitchen journal, allowing me to see week to week at a glance how our kitchen life is looking. This is kind of like reason number one, but it is more for me than for you. I am notoriously bad at journal keeping, but for some reason, I am not bad at blogging. So the journal benefit of blogging is like gold to me!
There’s Just One Problem
I’d like to hear from more of you about what’s twisting in your kitchens! Really, it would mean so much to me. (Thanks to those of you who have shared!) But participating in the Tuesday Twister won’t just make me feel better, I have something in mind to help you, too. Keep reading…
The Invitation
I invite you to join in the bigger and better Tuesday Twister – now a weekly blog carnival. What is a blog carnival?
“A blog carnival is a type of blog event. It is similar to a magazine, in that it is dedicated to a particular topic, and is published on a regular schedule, often weekly or monthly. Each edition of a blog carnival is in the form of a blog article that contains links to other blog articles on the particular topic.” – from wikipedia.
Let’s break that down for what it means for this blog carnival – the Tuesday Twister Blog Carnival at gnowfglins.com.
- The Tuesday Twister Blog Carnival will be hosted by gnowfglins.com each Tuesday. I will make my Tuesday Twister post by 9 am (West Coast time).
- The theme of the Tuesday Twister Blog Carnival will always be: to share, through words and/or photos, what’s been cooking (aka twisting) in your real food kitchen during the prior week.
- In order to participate in the Tuesday Twister Blog Carnival, you will publish a post on your own blog – including a link to the current Tuesday Twister post from gnowfglins.com. You may optionally include the Tuesday Twister image in your post.
- You will return to that week’s Tuesday Twister post at gnowfglins.com and add the link of your Tuesday Twister post in the Mr. Linky or MckLinky box provided.
Why Should You Participate?
Here are the reasons why I think you should participate in the Tuesday Twister Blog Carnival.
- Easy – I don’t know of any (many?) other carnivals on Tuesday!
- Pretty – the pictures you’ll take!
- Helpful – the organized journal you’ll start of what’s twisting in your kitchen from week to week!
- Fun – the potential traffic and new friends who will come to your blog due to your participation!
- Exciting – the first week of the carnival (next Tuesday) I’m also going to host a giveaway!
What if you don’t have a blog? That’s okay! You can share what’s twisting in your kitchen in the comments of any week’s post. (And you’ll still be entered in the giveaway drawing.)
A Giveaway?
Yes! A giveaway! All the participants in the first week’s Tuesday Twister Blog Carnival will be entered in a drawing to receive my homemade soap.
What Now?
Start taking pictures now… and get ready for next Tuesday, the 4th of August, 2009, when you’ll be able to join in the real food fun at gnowfglins.com!
I’d love for you to share about the Tuesday Twister Blog Carnival on facebook and twitter right now. Here’s a sample twitter post:

Remember, the theme is that you’ll share (through pictures and words) what real foods have been twisting in your kitchen during the week prior.
Any questions? Feel free to ask them here. And please, if you can, let me know if you’re going to participate. I’d love to start getting a head count.

Sounds like fun! How real do you mean by real?
I cook from scratch but I have a long way to go to be as close to real as you are.
You are very inspirational.
.-= Marg´s last blog post… Green beans! =-.
Marg,
Basically real foods aren’t processed or manufactured foods. They’re pretty close to, if not in, the same state as when they were grown. And there are many degrees to this. For instance, foods can be grown naturally or unnaturally, so that can be part of the picture.
You are inspirational yourself.
I’m sorry, that’s not what I really meant to ask. But I think I know the answer to my question anyway.
Marg, what did you mean to ask? I’m sorry if I misunderstood.
Sounds fun, Wardeh! I’m going to give it a try! I have loved your Tuesday Twister idea since you started it, and would love to begin a similar kitchen journal. Count me in!
Sonya
.-= Sonya Hemmings´s last blog post… The Beginning =-.
I would like to participate. I have a blog but it’s not a food blog. Is that okay? I’ve really been working on feeding my family more and more real foods and eliminating the processed stuff. This blog carnival would challenge me to stay on course and also keep a journal of what I’m doing.
What/where is “Mr. Linky” and “MckLinky” box?
.-= Marg´s last blog post… Countdown to holidays =-.
Marg – yes, that’s okay! The Tuesday Twister’s purpose is to help you journal week to week what’s going on in your kitchen, link to recipes, have fun with photos, talk about food. But your blog doesn’t have to be a food blog, just that post has to be about food. I know what exciting things you do in your kitchen, so I’m glad you’re going to participate!
I got Mr. Linky figured out.
(didn’t know it was called that)
I might do this. My kitchen isn’t as exciting as yours Wardeh.
I know a while ago, I was thinking of posting regularly on something in my kitchen. Tuesdays would be a good time; however, that thought is gone out of my head now and I have no idea what I was going to do. LOL
I have the weekend to think about this.
.-= Michelle ´s last blog post… Camping Out =-.
Michelle, please do join! Your posts are the highlight of my inbox – I always laugh and laugh! And I imagine your Tuesday Twister posts would quickly take the stage. I’m counting you in. No backing out, now!
But my foods are not always healthy. Take example what we did last night. We took our farm fresh eggs, that we hand picked out of the nesting box, and placed them in brownies, made with the white stuff…flour, sugar.
.-= Michelle´s last blog post… One Pea and Two Pups =-.
Michelle – But much of what you cook is with real foods… share those!
Wardeh,
Where do I comment for the Tuesday Twister (since I do not have a blog)? I’d like to do Tuesdays, if possible.
–Sangeeta
Sangeeta – That’s great! When you see the Tuesday Twister post tomorrow (which will have the Mr. Linky box for everyone to add links) – you won’t add a link, but you’ll write what’s twisting in a comment on that post. See you then!
If you don’t get to it Tuesday, you can add to it anytime that is convenient. The post will stay there.
