I’m excited to announce a giveaway for a quart-sized jar of Tropical Traditions’ Gold Label Virgin Coconut Oil. It is made from organic, fresh coconuts in rural areas of the Philippines. Small-scale family businesses produce this oil in small batches, taking great care and pride in their work. The pure coconut water from inside the coconut is used to extract the coconut milk using the traditional method of fermentation.
I got a jar of it recently and enjoyed using it in my kitchen. It has more of a coconut-y flavor than the other unrefined coconut oil I use, and I believe this is due to the traditional fermentation process, as well as the high quality of the coconuts. Would you agree with me that sometimes when you start eating real food, an adjustment period is necessary to acquaint your taste buds with the true flavor of food? This is what happened with me in using this coconut oil. I would spread it on biscuits, use it to fry eggs, put it in smoothies, or include it in baked goods. With some dishes it was easy to like the stronger flavor right away – like spread on bread, or in a dish where lots of other flavors are present – but with smoothies, I admit that I don’t like it (yet). Its flavor overpowers the fruit, so I use less of this type than the other type I have in my cupboard (which is also unrefined, but I think not produced using the fermentation method). But with eggs, to cook sausage, spread on bread, or used to refry grains, the flavor is wonderful. I am sorry to say that my jar is all gone and I must be ordering another!
Would you want to win a free quart-sized jar of this virgin coconut oil that is produced via traditional fermentation methods? Well, you might be the blessed winner of this giveaway! Entry instructions will follow, but first, a video interview with the founder of Tropical Traditions, Brian Shilhavy. He shares how he started making coconut oil the traditional way and how his company made this oil available to you and me.

Hello Wardeh! I met all 6 of the requirements to get six entries. You know we love coconut oil – and go through quite a bit. It’s the only oil we currently use, so this would be a super duper blessing.

Hey! Just placed an order with them: The two for one deal and no shipping charge! It’s coming from Nevada. I thought it was a good deal, and maybe you won’t have to order from Hummingbird for me–esp if this is a superior product! Thanks, darling Wardeh!
Mom – That’s wonderful!
I subcribed to you and to tropical traditions.
I’ve actually been thinking about ordering some from them. I’ve gotten used to the more intense coconut flavor but my husband doesn’t like it so I’ve just been buying small sizes of a less refined type from the grocery store to see if he will change his mind after an adjustment period. It’s awfully expensive that way, I should just buy the bigger size. I can always use it for baking if he never adjusts.
