Shari, you're looking for "chickpeas" or "garbanzo beans" - they are the same thing. You should find them in the bulk beans at most any health food store, or grocery store with a health food section. I recommend purchasing organic and from a store with good turnover. If you have access to a natural food warehouse (such as Azure Standard or United Natural Foods), you can order from there, too. Let me know if you have trouble!

Kelli,

It is available through Hummingbird Wholesale. I just bought 1 gallon and it is more than plenty for me. Actually, I purchased the toasted tahini. I have three quarts in the freezer. Would you like some? I'd have to look up the price, but I know it is reasonable.

Otherwise, at Sherm's, in the health food section, with the natural peanut butters, you should find some pint size jars of it. Not nearly as fresh and probably more expensive! ;)

I also prefer the food processor for hummus. I got these garbanzos last fall to try and I liked the hummus with them. I'm also using the Hummingbird roasted tahini. Yum. I just made a batch of hummus 2 days ago. My whole family loves it. I think it is one of my most favorite foods. We use it on bread or pitas or wrap sandwiches and as a vegie dip.

If you have a food processor, that works too. In fact, I like a food processor better than the Vitamix for hummus. I am sorry you didn't get that Vitamix. :(

I bought some of those beans and didn't know if they would work as well for hummus ... glad to see it does. I wasn't sure because when I cooked them, the peels did not come off, so would have to be blended into it. I didn't get that Vitamix that I mentioned a month or so ago. :( So I'd be using my kitchenaid blender still.
