Farmer’s Market
The last three weeks have been incredible at our Farmer’s Market, which until recently, really didn’t have much beyond eggs and bread. But a couple other farmers are coming to the market. We’ve brought home: plums, figs, pears, peaches, apples, sweet corn, green beans, kohlrabi, onions, broccoli, purple cabbage, heirloom tomatoes, and cucumbers. I’m probably forgetting things. At the Farmer’s Market, I also pick up our local eggs, and chickens when they are available.
I love summer produce! It will be great when I can grow all these myself, but we’re not there yet. We’re still at the land-moving, earth-shaping stage here at our place. But we do still grow our microgreens and sprouts, so between the heaps of greens I put out here and the Farmer’s Market produce, we’re eating in high style.
On Wednesday, I brought home a huge, 8 pound purple cabbage. Just one-fourth of it, shredded, fills a large salad bowl! To that, I add sprouted mung beans and sprouted lentils and dress it with our favorite dressing. Yumm!
The tomatoes are ripe, red, sweet, juicy. Perfect with a little salt. Today for lunch, I ate a tomato. Last night for dinner, I ate a tomato and a big serving of that purple cabbage salad. I love summer produce. My family teases me about not sharing the tomatoes, but I do share them. It is hard, but I will share if I have to. And I do have to, because they love the tomatoes, too. Bummer.
What’s your favorite produce from the bountiful summer season?

I love the farmer’s market as well, although we don’t get the variety of things that you have. There are never eggs or chicken, bummer. I usually buy apples, peaches, watermelons, cantaloupe, green beans. We grow our own tomatoes, and squash and cucumbers. When we move I want to have a HUGE garden with fruit trees, nut trees, grape vines, and our own chickens. I can’t wait, we are getting closer to our dream.
Tiffany, I want to have a huge garden, too, and we are planning on a greenhouse. Lots of fruit and nut trees, berry bushes, our own chickens. Oh, it sounds like I am just repeating you! Well, we have the same dreams don’t we? When are going to be able to move out to the country? Love, Wardeh
Wardeh,
Hi, sorry it has taken me so long to respond. We are hoping within the next year or 2 we will be moving. We want at least 2 acres probably. And animal rights, although we may not have a bunch of animals, we just want the option available to us. We were going to move about 2 hours from the city, but have decided that wouldn’t work so good for us right now. We need to be a little closer to the city to promote my cookbook, which I just received. I really like the idea of living in a small town, but that will have to wait. Maybe we will just gradually work our way out there. It’s all fun to think about though.
I hope things are going well for you and your family.
love,
Tiffany
