Haniya’s 11th Birthday Menu

Naomi and I worked in the kitchen all day on Saturday to prepare Haniya’s birthday dinner. Haniya is a total gourmet and picks very labor intensive food each year. That’s okay though because I love to make it and need an excuse to do it!

Naomi grinding the ingredients for falafel

Naomi was such a big help to me and a blessing to Haniya. We made vanilla coconut ice cream and dark chocolate brownies. We de-stemmed 5 bunches of parsley for quinoa tabouli. We blended up some hummus in the Vita-Mix. Naomi sliced green peppers and cucumbers to dip in the hummus. We ground up the ingredients for falafel and then fried it right before dinner. The grinding gave us trouble, though. I don’t know what was wrong with the Bosch but it kept getting clogged. I’ve helped my mom make falafel many, many times and I don’t remember her Bosch ever clogging up. It was frustrating and I’m sorry to say that I made Naomi cry because I let my frustrating get the better of me. (No, I didn’t break anything but I did pound the side of my fist on the cupboard.)

The dinner was fabulous!
