Maple-Walnut Granola

Maple Walnut Granola
Original recipe from PCRM
Modified by Wardeh Harmon

  • 12 cups rolled oats
  • 3 cups wheat germ or oat bran
  • 1-1/2 cup chopped walnuts
  • 1-1/2 cup raisins
  • 1-1/2 cup dried cranberries or other dried fruit
  • 3/4 cup sesame seeds
  • 3/4 cup maple syrup
  • 6 tablespoons unsulphured molasses
  • 3 teaspoons cinnamon

Preheat oven to 300 degrees.

Combine all ingredient (except walnuts and dried fruit) in a large bowl and mix thoroughly.

Transfer to 2 9 x 13 inch baking pans. Bake, turning every 10 minutes with a spatula, until mixture is golden brown, about 25 minutes. All to cool completely. Add walnuts and dried fruit. Store in air-tight container.

This makes about 20 cups. Reduce by half for a smaller batch.

Your children are so creative. I remember lying in our field and “shooting” at the train that was coming by–like the old western, where the bad guys were robbing the train. Such fun.
The granola recipe sounds yummy. Printed it out to try.
    Blessings

Patty, what a good memory! What a great game! Hope you like the granola. It isn’t overly sweet and it doesn’t call for oil, but it really is yummy.

    Love the bows! Very creative.

This recipe sounds so good. We’re all maple lovers here so I can’t wait to try it. I also wanted to mention that we’ve tried several of your recipes now and they’ve all turned out so well. Thanks for sharing them with the rest of us!

Rachelle, I love hearing that families enjoy natural foods! Thanks for giving some of my recipes a try and thanks for letting me know. Hope you like the granola!

Instead of the wheat germ or oat bran, do you think I could substitute rice bran? I need it to be gluten free. Thanks!

  4. Wardeh says:

Oh, yes, I think you could do that! Would you use certified gluten-free oats? If this works for you, please let me know. I didn’t know there was rice bran available.

  5. Ellen says:

Hi Wardeh – I got the rice bran at our local health food store. I’m going to try making your granola with it. Thanks!
