Green Smoothie ~ Sweet and Easy

We’re out of fruit, so I used apple juice concentrate and orange juice to make our green smoothie this morning. It was a little sweeter than usual, which we enjoyed!

This makes a thin smoothie. For a thicker smoothie, reduce the amount of water. Adjust the amount of apple juice concentrate to your desired degree of sweetness.

Green Smoothie: Apple & Orange Juices with Kale

Makes 56 ounces

1/4 cup flax seeds (heaping)
5 leaves kale, washed and broken in thirds (or to fit in blender)
1/2 cup apple juice concentrate
1 cup orange juice
8 ice cubes
3 cups filtered water

Put all ingredients in blender and blend until smooth. Pour into glasses and serve.

  1. I have been trying to find a way for Emma and I especially to have flax each day. We used to drink the oil each day, but Emma didn’t enjoy it. She never really complained, but I could see that she was not enjoying it. I know it is very good for those of us with eczema. So, this just may be my answer. You know, as fancy as KA appliances are, I have been reading some reviews that have not been so favorable. On everything but the stand mixer. That always seems to get rave reviews. So, we may just be investing in a Vitamix for our blending needs. ;)
    Love & Hugs!

  2. I tried your green smoothie recipes last week. Sarah and I loved them! But they weren’t blended up enough for the rest of the clan. I too need a different mixer, but I don’t think that’s in the budget for this year!

  3. Robin, this is a very good way to get flax each day. But you can also mix the flax flax oil in with salad dressings or drizzled on salad. The flax seed meal goes well on yogurt, cereal and in salad dressings, too. Just don’t cook either :)
Sylvia, I’m glad to hear you tried the green smoothies and that you and Sarah liked them! Yay! Thanks for letting me know.
